Storytelling

This elegantly elevated dessert dish combines rich glazes with a delicate lotus motif.  The lotus flower is an important symbol in Chinese Buddhism, representing purity, justice, and nobility. The famous poem "Ode to the Lotus" written during the Northern Song Dynasty describes the lotus as “emerging from the mud without being stained, it is washed in clear water without becoming seductive.” As Buddhism spread through China, it was believed that the creator god was born from a lotus flower and that Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) took seven steps on his way to enlightenment, with a golden lotus flower appearing beneath each footstep.
